Review: Dragons of a Fallen Sun by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman

5 out of 5

A very long time ago I read the original Dragon Lance series and enjoyed it. This novel is the beginning of another series, The War of Souls,  set in the same world. You really don’t need to have read the original to follow along as much of the back story is given through out this story. Set 30 something years in the future Taz, a kender from the original series, goes into the future twice to speak at his best friends funeral. The first time he is minutes to late and the world is normal. The second time he is early and things are very, very different. While many characters from the original series are present, the main story concentrates on new characters. This is the perfect example of a well written book with two authors. Everything blends smoothly and if it weren’t for the cover you would not know there were two authors. The story itself is enjoyable with many twists and turns and surprises. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
