In this, the second novel in The War of Souls series, events move forward quickly for all of the characters. New characters are introduced as Mina conquers more territory and Taz tries to avoid being sent back to his own time to die. Questions about where the magic is going, who exactly is the One God and how did Dalamar end up a prisoner in his own tower are answered. As always in a Weis and Hickman novel, the characters are well developed and the story moves along well. It can be difficult for writers to balance the different story lines and keep the reader from becoming confused but they succeed. The theme of death and the afterlife weaves it’s way through the novel adding interesting twists especially for Taz. I definitely recommend this series for new and old Dragon Lance fans.
